How to Plan Your Backyard Edible Garden

Fall is a great time to plan for your spring garden. If you are interested in adding some edible whether they be annuals or perennials this is the class to attend. This class will go over how Gateway Greening staff think of design, the best tips and tricks for getting started with design, and the plants we think do best in backyards or small spaces.

Vine Crops: trellises, pruning, and care for grapes and kiwis Thursday, September 23rd at 6:00 pm*
Woody vine crops like grapes and hardy kiwis can be grown successfully in St. Louis but take different care than trees and shrubs. Come and learn about the best trellis type to use, the easiest varieties to grow, how to prune, and methods of disease control for these exciting and unique fruiting crops.

Nature Journaling in the Garden
Thursday, October 7th at 6:00 pm
Nature journaling teaches children to become keen observers of the natural world through writing and drawing. This class will explore how to develop these skills. Attendees will learn best practices when introducing nature journaling to youth and leave with a variety of journaling activities to try in the garden or any outdoor setting. Growing Garlic and Winter Gardening
Thursday, October 21st at 6:00 pm
Garlic, shallots, the crazy-looking walking onion, are a few crops that are true winter crops that aren’t planted until mid-October. and wheat. We will also discuss season extension techniques to extend your growing season. Come learn how to successfully grow these crops and how you can literally save your own seed so you can grow them year after year.
