School Programs

Gateway Greening is committed to sharing the fun and rewards of gardening with our younger area residents. From curriculum connections to after school clubs, Gateway Greening and its volunteers are installing school gardens and bringing gardening activities to classrooms with programs in place at over 60 schools and community centers in the metropolitan St. Louis area. Please contact Jean Corbett, Education Coordinator, for more information about our programs.

School Gardens

Gateway Greening supports active vegetable, sensory, native and butterfly gardens at over 60 local schools, giving young people the opportunity to experience first-hand planting, tending and harvesting-reaping the rewards of their hard work. Teachers, staff, parents and volunteers apply yearly for a School Greening grant to receive materials such as lumber, soil and tools. With assistance from Gateway Greening staff, we build the garden together. The ownership and garden responsibilities stay with the school or community group to enjoy for years to come, with continued support and education opportunities from our dynamic staff and volunteers. School Greening grants are avaible yearly in early spring and due in May. For an application, please contact Jean Corbett at 314-588-9600 x24 or jean@gatewaygreening.org.
